Scientists Invent Water-Based Organic Battery

Nayaran Researchers from the University of Southern California, USA, developed a water-based organic batteries as the energy solution of the future.

Nayaran develop alternative battery along with a colleague, Surya Prakash, professor of chemistry and director of the USC Loker Hydrocarbon Research Institute and three investigators Bo Yang, Lena Hoober-Burkhardt, and Fang Wang of the USC.

These batteries were developed without the use of metal materials or toxic substances, batrai is expected to provide the benefits of energy efficiency and is able to produce more energy and to support power for electricity generation.

Batrai is more durable, as well as economic value. Narayan explains "This organic batteries last for 15 thousand mampuh replenishment cycle, expected life of 15 years,". With the capability of the cycle, the alternative batteries have a cycle of 5-fold, because the Lithium ion batteries will last in the 1000 cycle, and at a cost 10 times as much for production.

Prakash said alternative battery that will change the map of electrical energy storage, in terms of simplicity, cost, reliability and sustainability.

Batteries that reduces constraints in battery-supplied from alternative energy sources. For example, the battery generated from solar power is limited because it depends on when the turbine is shining. The condition is certainly not reliable for electricity generation. Now the battery will naturally be the solution challenges such as that experienced in the solar power plant.

"Energy storage in scale 'mega' is an important issue in the future of renewable energy. For the future requires a cheap and environmentally friendly solutions," said Narayan.

The new batteries that run the principle of redox flow, this is a similar design in a fuel cell. This stream is equipped with two tanks electroactive materials are dissolved in water.

This tank can be adjusted by the amount of energy needed to increase the energy of the system.

Mentioned key breakthrough was centered on electroactive materials. While the design of the battery before use metals or toxic chemicals, the researchers wanted to find organic compounds that can dlarutkan in water.

The system, according to researchers will create minimal impact on the environment. And on the final product will be more affordable.

Through a combination of design trial and error, the researchers found some natural quinones, organic compounds are oxidized, as required.

Quinone found in plants, fungi, bacteria and some animals. These compounds are also involved in photosynthesis and cell respiration.

"It is a type of molecule that uses natural energy to transfer," explained Narayan.

He added that so far the quinone is required for batteries manufactured from natural hydrocarbons. In the future, it is possible to get these molecules of carbon dioxide.

These findings have been dijukan in a battery design patents. The study has been published in the Journal of the Electrochemical Society June 20 issue.

Utilizing Wind and Water High school students have Create Power

Two students of SMAN 2 Semarang origin creates a power plant and a wind energy menanfaatkan release vortex or rotating water flow.

Zufar and Fa'iq Ihsan Maulana Amanullah Utomo to name these findings with Winner Voice (Vortex Induced Wind Energy and Energy). His invention into the category Finalists National Young Inventors Award (waste their) 8th 2015 organized by the Indonesian Institute of Sciences (LIPI).

According Fa'iq "This tool is about the power plants that take wind energy and release vortex. In one device there are two things that can be extracted from the two different elements of water and wind," he said while talking to AFP.

There are some parts in the tool is the first confounders (diffuser) is made of aluminum which has a relatively light load, rustproof and malleable. Both propellers of fiber glass which has good strength and durable and malleable. The third pillar is made of stainless steel which have strength and great durability, resistance to water and cause corrosion. Fourth neomydium magnet type magnet (Nd2Fe14B) the strongest levels durable magnet. This tool is enabled to be installed in the middle of the sea and make use of seawater.

"We take advantage of the current, can be installed in the sea or a river. Over there it flows able to produce vortex flow pattern for which a resulting water and air driven by the corresponding circle and it can be used to generate electricity," said Fa'iq.

"How it works is that there are currents prevented each cylinder is horizontal it can form a whirlpool or vortex the top and bottom. The vortex-shaped alternately up and down and up and down that we connect to the connecting rod is connected to a generator, the stem of aluminum to resist because in the sea, from the generator to generate electricity that can be used for the needs of citizens, "he added.

According Fa'iq wind energy use and environmentally friendly disposal of this vortex and included in the category of renewable energy resources (renewable). So that its benefits will be felt in the long term. Fa'iq and Zufar also want to say that the vortex is not only considered as a negative thing that can ruin but also can be useful.

"During this vortex was considered damaging so we wanted to make this vortex could have a function to drive a generator and produce electricity," he said.

In the exhibition at LIPI some time ago, Fa'iq and Zufar mockups findings only show that it takes 3-4 months. He does not display the original shape due to make electricity generation costs a very large number of expert technicians.

"We still need help because the study is still not widely known pioneer and still need help for the development of further tools but it also requires supervising research related to technical calculations," he said.  (detik)

With the serial number 31, the team Widya Wahana V is one of the 46 cars from 25 countries who participated compete in the World Solar Challenge 2015, which starts on Sunday (18/10/2015).

The competition, which took the start in the Parliament of the State of the Northern Territory (NT) is the most prestigious event in the world for solar car racing. The competition will end at the finish line in the city of Adelaide.

Tim car called Stella Lux Eidenhoven Dutch origin, took the start in the first place, witnessed by thousands of visitors. The car then drove across town towards Jalan Darwin Stuart Highway.

This contest has been going on since 1987 ago, and is now held every two years. The developers prototype solar cars around the world and usually take part of this event, to demonstrate the reliability of their work.

Various challenges to be faced by each team. Car Persian Gazelle III from Iran, for example, getting yells of support most festive time of leaving the start line, was forced to stop just a few kilometers after the road.

Because the car was made in the University of Tehran experienced a flat tire so had to stop and pump up the tire.

A similar thing happened Golden Eagle 5.1 K.I.T cars made in Japan, which was forced to stop shortly after the start.

Although most participants come from a team based at the university, but there are also a team featuring cars made by high school students, such as Liberty car Solar Car of Texas, USA.

"We managed to spur our car at a speed of 51 km per hour before. And we hope to be raced a little faster today," Cameron said Mutis of Liberty team, told ABC on Sunday

Indonesia Develop Wind Energy Electricity with Company of India

Indonesia Develop  Wind Energy Electricity with Company of India
Therefore the Government of Indonesia to establish a cooperation agreement in the development of Renewable Energy (EBT). Director General of Renewable Energy and Energy Conservation (EBTKE) Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM), Rida Mulyana said that cooperation with India includes six things, namely, the exchange of information and technology joint research and development projects, transfer of technology.

Indonesia Kembangkan Energi Angin Jadi Listrik Bersama Perusahaan India

"Then there is also, promotion and investment and encourage dialogue policy issues and the latest human resource development (capacity building)," said Rida, as quoted from the official website of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, in Jakarta, Tuesday (03/11/2015).

Rida revealed, cooperation with the government of India is against the background of their success in developing wind and solar energy. India is able to develop renewable energy from the wind reached 70 percent. India's success in the development of wind and solar influenced by the location of the country is in the mainland auto landless and strong gusts of wind.

"The potential of wind they are large, so they have a lot of wind farm, I want to learn from them, how can they sell wind power at very low rates, if somewhere else is still 20 cents per kwh, they already sell for a dozen," said Rida.

According to Rida, factor Western countries can sell wind power at a low price, because they no longer dependent with imported raw materials and the full support of his government.

"Early days they are still dependent manufacturers outside, but not anymore, no tax holiday for developers, electricity sold is not taxable, and the government provides subsidies to land (in kind) for wind energy development," said Rida.

Such cooperation was marked by the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (Memorandum Of Understanding / MoU). Representing the Government of Indonesia, Director General of Renewable Energy and Energy Conservation, Rida Mulyana and representing the Government of India, Ambassador of India to Indonesia and Timor Leste, Gujrit Singh on Monday, November 2, 2015.
