Math Team Indonesia wins two Gold Medal in Bulgaria

Math Team Indonesia won a number of medals in the International Mathematics Competition for University Students  22 in Bulgaria

Pensosbud function Embassy in Sofia Dina Martina told Antara in London, Sunday (02/08/2015), said that Indonesia won two gold medals were contributed Mohammed Al-Kahf of ITB and Pramoedya Ananto of UGM.

Besides Indonesia Student Math Team also won a silver medal donate to Benny Prasetya Wiranata (UGM) and three bronze medals each won Galina Pradananta, Brilly Maxel Salindeho and Afif Humam from ITB.

While Willy Sumarno (UGM) and Joseph Hafidh (ITB) received Honorable Mention, and a certificate for Jona Marinus Manulang (UI).

Dina Martina said the achievements obtained by the Math Team Indonesia is the best compared to the previous year since Indonesia's participation in the International Mathematical competitions in 2004. The RI team had twice gained the gold that is on the competition in Bulgaria in 2010 and 2014.

Welcoming the success of this Math Team, the Ambassador Bunyan Saptomo host Tim RI lunch at Wisma Duta before returning to the country.

On that occasion, the ambassador conveyed congratulations and appreciation for the achievements, as well as to thank the team that has the name of Indonesia abroad.

"This achievement shows Indonesia no less than other countries in the fields of mathematics," he said.

The team of nine students between the ages of 19-22 years have led Lecturer of Trustees of the University of Education Indonesia, Siti Fatimah and of the Directorate of Student Affairs Directorate General of Higher Education and Kemendikbud Dawn Pryautama.

According to Siti Fatimah, nine students in the Math Team is the result of the selection of about 1,300 students from various universities in Indonesia, both public and private.

Gold medalist, Pramoedya Ananto (22), who last year earned a silver in the same event this year convey the material about which tested more difficult than last year. Participants from Russia and Israel be the toughest competitor.

While Mohammed Al-Kahf, first-year students of ITB, who won gold was the youngest participant (19). The highest award of Grand Grand Prize at the International mathematical competition's winner was a student of the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology and St. Petersburg State University.

In the international arena is the Indonesian team to compete with 326 participants from around 75 universities in the world such as Yale University (USA), Utrecht and Leiden University (Netherlands), Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology and St. Petersburg State University (Russia), University of Warwick (UK).


In addition, students of Sharif University of Technology and Isfahan University of Technology (Iran) Institute of Science and Technology (IST) Austria, and Nanyang Technological University (Singapore).
