Air pollution in urban areas has always been a major
problem, the number of vehicles crossing the street became one of the main
sources. Various attempts have been made to find solutions to overcome this
problem, ranging from tree planting, vehicle emissions testing, even plans to
mass use of electric cars which proved jaws and emission-free environment also
was campaigned.

A new breakthrough came from a number of scientists
Eindhoven University of Technology, The Netherlands, succeeded in making paving
block (concrete blocks) for roads and sidewalks that can absorb air pollution.
The discovery, published in the Journal of Hazardous Materials Paving blocks,
which will cut air pollution by 45 percent.
This technology has been tested at a road block in the
city Hengalo, Netherlands. Installation of this technology also does not
require any special equipment, in addition to paving materials that have been
sprayed titanium oxide layer. This material is able to absorb and remove
pollutants from the air to then turn them into harmless substances.
Nitrogen oxides (NOx) is a general term mono-nitrogen
oxides NO and NO2 (nitrogen monoxide and nitrogen dioxide). This substance is a
kind of toxic gas that is produced from the reaction of nitrogen and oxygen
during the combustion process in the engine motor vehicle. This causes the level
of pollutant nitrogen oxides in the big cities are crowded vehicles, very high.
